Pakistan should play India in World T20
Dr. Jassim Taqui
Some politicians are pressing that Pakistan should not play India in the upcoming World T20 citing security concerns. This is the most unfortunate move at a time when all regional and world powers are pressing dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues between the two countries through peaceful means. Cricket is a “game changer” that ensures Pak-Indian war must be shifted to cricket stadiums through genuine completion and not to battlefields.
Statistics have shown that over 90 percent Pakistani viewers have opted to see cricket matches of PSL rather than talk shows by local TV stations that highlight differences among politicians rather than discuss real issues facing the vast majority of the people.
Undoubtedly, the Pakistani people have spoken loudly by rejecting the noora kushti” fixed wrestling” of the intellectually bankrupt politicians. Majestic cricket would reign supreme in Pakistan. It would kill all attempts to escalate tension or invite war between Pakistan and India.
Cricket, not war, brought honors to Pakistan when the national team under the leadership of Imran Khan won the 1992 World cup beating England that is rightly described by all as “the headquarters of world cricket.”
