PILDAT categorizes PML-N the most undemocratic party
Pakistan Institue of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) on Monday published second Annual Report on Internal Democracy in political parties of Pakistan which places , Jamat-e-Islami (JI) on Top, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) on last, whereas Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaf on third position contrary to previous report, party were on second position.
According to report, they have assessed internal democracy of eight political parties in Pakistan, Jamat-e-Islami(JI) with 56% score on Top, the Nation Party (NP) on second with 47% score, PTI on No 3 with 44% score, the Awami National Party (ANP) with 40% score on 4th number, the Pakistan People Party (PPP) on 5th position with 36%, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazlur Rehman (JUI-F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) both jointly on 6 with 33% and the party who is running federal government PML-N with 31% on last number.
In report PILDAT mentioned criteria upon which the report has been vaulted, it is written below:
- Democratic character of the party constitution;
- Regular and competitive party elections;
- Effectiveness of intra-party structures;
- Role of local party chapters in selecting party candidates for legislatures and local governments;
- Regular meetings of parliamentary parties;
- Tradition of annual general meetings or conventions;
- Discouragement of dynastic leadership;
- Regular change in party leadership;
- A broad funding base and credible party accounts;
- Tolerance of dissent within party;
- A democratic decision-making process; and
- Active participation of women, youth and minorities in party affairs
