Beware The ides of March

Beware The ides of March
Dr. Jassim Taqui

Finally, the Supreme Court (SC) fixed 31st March as the last date for government to submit its final report on the MCB privatization in 1991. Investigation were lingering on since 2000. All governments used their influence to delay NAB’s efforts to bring the culprits to justice. Now, the SC is saying enough is enough.

The motto should be “ Democracy Yes, Corruption No.” It is time to rid the nation of the corrupts who use their money or feudal connection to win every election. Winning elections enable such corrupt politicians to hijack the parliament and to paralyze all democratic institutions.

Democracy can flourish only when transparency is enforced and accountably is conducted across the board. The NAB has a list of 150 mega scandals in which almost all political parties are involved. So far, the government is using every tactic to stop NAB’s investigation; fearing the reach of justice and exposure.

The US Vice President summarized the story by saying, “ Fighting corruption is not just good governance. It’s self-defense. It’s patriotism.”
