Manipulating democracy

Manipulating democracy
Dr. Jassim Taqui

Facing a genuine accountability due involvement in Panama scandal, the ruling regime is playing every trick under the sun to remain in power despite unprecedented corruption. The regime has fallen from the grace both domestically and internationally but continue its disrespect for National Assembly and the Senate. However, the decision of the Supreme Court to decline the Federal Government plea to form a Judicial Commission to investigate the Panama Leaks has exposed the non-serious attitude of the Government in resolving a crisis that has paralyzed all national accountability institutions.

This should also explain the unified stance of the Opposition on Terms Of Reference (TORs), which are vague and unspecific to ensure that the issue would prolong to years. According to one account, the present TORs would take judiciary at least 50-60 years to start accountability of the self-confessed culprits.  This is an alarming development since the corrupt have huge money that can be liberally used against judiciary to ensure the survival of a corrupt regime. This would also bring to the fore the relevance of militants, mafia and criminal outfits who would be in great demand.
