Putin vs. Obama

Putin vs. Obama
Dr. Jassim Taqui

The confusion of the US President  Barak Obama in dealing with the Middle East has landed him in extreme trouble. In a bid to damage the Russian influence in Syria, Obama has found himself siding with the camp of supporters of Al-Qaeda and ISIS, which pose the greatest danger to the national security of the United States and European Union. Ironically, Al-Nusra Front, which is supported by Obama, is an integral part of Al-Qaeda, which is responsible for 9/11. It is, thus a mind-boggling game. What does Obama want to covey to the American people by such policy?

Consequently all important states in the Middle East are now tilting towards Russia since it is seen by these state as sincere in the war against Al-Qaeda and ISIS. Thus, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Israel and other states have re-established  or strengthened ties with Moscow.

Obama also sought “hot war” with Russia by activating NATO to intimidate Moscow and interfere into the internal affairs of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.

Obama went to the extent of forming  a united NATO Black Sea naval task force to counter Russian Navy in the region. This prompted Bulgarian prime minister to rule out participation plans with the schemes of NATO.

There are voices of dissent from Germany as well. Former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has advised the German government to mend relations with Russia rather than taunt it by placing troops in Eastern Europe, near its borders.

With these grave situations, one would hope that the US administration and the NATO should desist from their “hot war” policy and opt for dialogue with Moscow to resolve the outstanding issues through peaceful means.
