UNESCO and Orange Line Metro

UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee on the Orange Line Metro Train Project elevated track in front of Shalimar Garden, Lahore

Islamabad, 22 July 2016: The World Heritage Committee ,at its  40th session, examined the state of conservation of the World Heritage property of Lahore Fort and Shalamar Gardens  (Istanbul, Turkey from 10 to 17 July 2016). The Committee requested the relevant State Party (Government of Pakistan) to conduct a visual impact study before pursuing the work associated to the Orange Line Metro Train Project, and requested the Government to invite a reactive monitoring mission as soon as possible to discuss the issues concerning the Orange Line Metro Train Project as well as issues related to management and protection of the property.

The World Heritage Committee further requested the State Party to submit a full report on the state of conservation of the property by 1 February 2017. The decisions related to the property adopted by the World Heritage Committee at its 40th session  will soon be officially  submitted to the Government of Pakistan.
