Zakhilwal steals the show

Zakhilwal steals the show
Dr. Jassim Taqui

On the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the President’s Special Envoy and Afghanistan Ambassador to Pakistan  Dr. Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal hosted in Serena Hotel a grand reception and Cultural Show. Top Pakistani leaders, MNAs, MPAs, senators were in attendance. Among the VIPs who attended the function was Sartaj Aziz who was the Chief Guest.
Both Zakhilwal and Aziz read written speeches that highlighted the keen interests of both in cementing the bilateral ties. Aziz went on to reiterate that peace and security of Afghanistan served the national interests of Pakistan. He along with Zakhilwal was repeatedly applauded by the huge audience while delivering their speeches in a function that reflects festive mood.
Ambassadors and military attaches accredited to Pakistan also attended in a large number.
One could feel a state of euphoria in the unusually “crowded,” reception. In my 46 years of covering diplomatic events, I have never seen such “huge,” attendance.
The most probable explanation is that a large number of Afghan nationals attended the function. Another is the popularity of Zakhilwal both on the government and people levels.
Thus one can safely say that Zakhilwal stole the show with his pleasing personality, intellect, and a genuine will to promote the bilateral relations.
