Too good to be true

Islamabad, August 16, 2021: Reconsidering the sequence of events in Afghanistan, one finds himself compelled to state that there are missing links. There are also missing behind-the-scenes forces that influenced one way or another the developments. Some believe that invisible power(s) played a role in the military expansion of the Taliban, collective surrender of the Afghan army to the Taliban, and ultimately the march to Kabul.

Subsequently, former President Ashraf Ghani made a deal with the Taliban, exiling himself in Tajikistan. This paved the way for US Embassy in Kabul and Abdullah Abdullah to select Ahmad Ali Jalali to become interim Afghan President. His mission is to transform power to Taliban-led government.

Taliban pledged to change its rigid stance regarding women, minorities. Will no longer oppose the right of women to education and work. Will also observe human rights. Taliban would declare amnesty to all who opposed its rule and those who worked with the US and NATO during 20 years of Afghanistan’s occupation.

It is perfection upon perfection all the way. It is so great or impressive as to be difficult to believe. Or, it is too good to be true.
