 Launch of Coordination and Strengthening of HIV, TB and

Hepatitis Services in  Sindh Prisons

Islamabad, March 8,  2022: UNODC Country Office Pakistan in coordination with the Sindh Prisons Department will hold a ceremony on the Coordination and Strengthening of HIV, TB, and Hepatitis Services in Prisons in the IG prison Sindh office and will formally hand over the formal control and implementation of the HIV, TB and Hepatitis module of Prison Management Information System (PMIS) along with equipment Sindh Prisons Department. The equipment will be used in the newly established HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) center for the HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and TB testing and treatment services at District Prison Malir Karachi.

 

Kazi Nazir Ahmed, Inspector General of Prisons has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest of the launch ceremony, Senior government officials from law enforcement agencies, members of civil society, and non-government Organizations are invited to join the launch ceremony.

Security Council Press Statement on Terrorist Attack in Peshawar, Pakistan

 

The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Lana Zaki Nusseibeh (United Arab Emirates):

 

The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the heinous and cowardly terrorist attack that took place at the Koocha Risaldar Mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan, on Friday, 4 March 2022. The attack which was claimed by ISIL-K resulted in the death of at least 62 people and injuries to dozens more. 

 

The members of the Security Council expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and the Government of Pakistan and they wished a speedy and full recovery to those who were injured.

The members of the Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.

 

The members of the Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice and urged all States, following their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Government of Pakistan and all other relevant authorities in this regard.

 

The members of the Security Council reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed.  They reaffirmed the need for all States to combat by all means, by the Charter of the United Nations and other obligations under international law, including international human rights law, international refugee law, and international humanitarian law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
