Nawaz Sharif’s Lolita

Nawaz Sharif’s Lolita
Dr. Jassim Taqui

The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is on an important and do or die mission. He is preparing the next Prime Minister of Pakistan. This time, Sharif is thinking, speaking and breathing “ liberalism,” which is explained “ secularism” by religious parties. More importantly, Sharif is grooming his “Lolita,” to be the next leader. His Lolita would inherit everything including PML-N, his wealth and decision making. Lolita would dictate terms and enjoy absolute power and influence.

Lolita is a love story written by Vladimir Nabokov in 1955, depicting an abstract love between a 50-year old teacher and his 12-year old student. Many critics wrongly understood the theme and were also confused about the nature of  the extraordinary love depicted by Nabokov. This reading is reinforced by the fact that Lolita got a Nobel Prince for Literature. Nobel prize is not given to a mere love story fiction unless there something special about that form of love.  Hence, I summarily dismiss the critics’ claim about that special love.

It was that abstract or forbidden love that made Lolita deserving a noble price. Sharif’s Lolita is unique, charming and defends him in social media. I guess now you know who is Lolita.
