The Iranian Mullahs

The Iranian Mullahs
Dr. Jassim Taqui

The Iranian revolution, which is known in Persian language “ Enqelabe Esteqlal  wa Azadi” or “ Revolution for Independence and Liberty started well. The revolution toppled the Pahlavi dynasty that spread a reign of terror and massive human rights abuse.

Imam Khomeini who led the resolution decided to keep the Mullahs away from politics. Thus he supported  a non- Mullah Sayyed Abolhassan Banisadir to become the first President of the Islamic Republic of Iran(5th February 1980 to 20th June 1981). However, the Mullahs  managed to convince the Majlis (parliament) to impeach him when he attempted to clip their wing. Since then, the Mullahs are ruling Iran; creating immense mess especially when they opted to revive the erstwhile Persian Empire.

The result is disastrous. Iran has been condemned  by UN Security Council, OIC, Arab League and GCC. Saudi Arabia formed the 34-nation Islamic Military Alliance to be essentially an anti-Iran force and to contain the Iranian ambition. Inevitably, Iran stands today isolated internationally.

Most importantly, the Mullahs’ policies have created immense threat to the minority Shiites in Sunni-majority states. Today, the Shiites are persecuted and subjected to ethnic cleansing similar to Hitler’s holocaust of the innocent Jewish community in Nazi’s Germany.

Allama Mohammad Iqbal summarized the sad story of the Mullahs by this couplet:
تري نماز مين باقي جلال هى ن جمال  ترى آذان مين نهين هي سحر كا بيام
The translation of this couplet is virtually impossible. However, the nearest meaning is:
Your worship is devoid of grandeur, charm and grace;

Your Call to Prayer at morns leaves cold doesn’t brace.
