The Gymnasium of the NUST university, witnessed a mega event of the highest standard. The NUST combined with HEC, POA, , ILO, UNIC, Germany Embassy and French Embassy to stage sports function with live badminton matches between various steam .
The theme is” Sports For Development.” Sports promotes UN values. The events coincides with the date of 6th April, 1922 when UN started in 1922 the initiative of ILO and IEC under the theme of using sports for development and peace.
The UNIC chief Mr. Vittorio Cammarota read the message of UNSG Ban ki Mon on the occasion. Olivier Huynh-Van , the Corporation Attaché of French Embassy also witnessed and participated in the event.
Mr. Mukhtar Ahmed of HEC broke the good news that HEC had signed an agreement with Cuba to establish the first even Sports University and that HEC released Rs. 400 million for the promotion of sports in educational institutions throughout Pakistan.
Speaking on the occasion, the Pro-Rector of the NUST University stated that sports offers unlimited opportunities to develop people’s physical and mental health and urged all to play sports. He advised senior citizens to walk; stating that walk was an important tool to overcome worries and depression.
