Festive mood in Pakistan on the 17th anniversary of Throne Day
Dr. Jassim Taqui

Throne Day, also known as Feast of the Throne, is a public holiday in Morocco that commemorates the enthronement of the incumbent monarch. Since 1999, it has been celebrated on July 30.

The Kingdom of Morocco is a constitutional monarchy. The head of state is the King of Morocco who holds vast legislative and executive powers. His decrees have the force of law. The King also has the right to dissolve the parliament (however, he must consult the Prime Minister and the President of the Constitutional Court first).
Throne Day was established when Morocco gained independence and the title of Sultan was replaced with the title of King. During the rule of Mohammed V, it was celebrated on November 18. When his successor Hassan II ascended the throne, the date was moved to March 3. Following the enthronement of Mohammed VI, Moroccans began to celebrate Throne Day on July 30.
Mohammed VI became King of Morocco on July 23, 1999, following the death of his father King Hassan II. The ceremony of enthronement took place a week later, on July 30, in the capital city of Rabat.
In Islamabad, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco Mustapha Salahudinne hosted a reception at the Serena Hotel to mark the 17th anniversary of the enthronement of King Mohammad VI of Morocco.
Prominent figures and elite of the twin cities were in attendance including the Chief Guest Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid and Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana.
The guests included diplomats, dignitaries and prominent citizens from different walks of life.
One could notice a festive mood in the function. The Ambassador Mustapha Salahudinne surprised his guests with excellent sweets, which were brought by air from Morocco to be served along with other delicious Moroccan cuisines.
The Ambassador of Morocco to Pakistan Mustapha Salahudinne greeted the guests and mixed with all of them to add people’s dimension to this special occasion.
The ceremony started with the playing of national anthems of Pakistan and Morocco.
Later a cake was cut by the host and chief guest Pervaiz Rashid. Other guests who joined in to celebrate the occasion also participated in cutting the cake.
In his brief remarks, the Information Minister conveyed his heartiest felicitations to the government and people of Morocco on this auspicious occasion.
Paying rich tribute to the policies of The Leader of The Faithful ,King Mohammed VI,  the minister highlighted the progress and prosperity achieved in Morocco under his sagacious  leadership. He described relations between Pakistan and Morocco as marked by mutual feelings of brotherhood and friendship
