Accountability of Nawaz Sharif has started

Accountability of Nawaz Sharif has started
Dr. Jassim Taqui

The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (NS) is now facing the accountability by none-state actors. This move has been anticipated by political circles though it came very late. Knowing that he is facing the music, the prime minister spent 48 days in London. However, the prime minister came back home to be welcomed by a hostile media, which maintained that he faked the “open-heart surgery” to justify his absence from Pakistan. NS also feared that he might be arrested once in Pakistan. He wanted to buy time and to prolong his accountability.

This time, the accountability started from an unexpected person. The former chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry (IMC) and leader of Pakistan Justice and Democratic Party (PJDC) started the accountability by filing a reference against NS to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.

IMC sought NS’s disqualification as he is neither Sadiq (truthful) nor Ameen (honest) as perceived by the article 62(1) (f) of the Constitution. The article stipulates that the Speaker is bound to file a reference against NS with the Election Commission within 30 days and that if he declined to do so within 30 days, “It shall be deemed to have been referred to the Election Commission.”
The Election Commission of Pakistan is bound to investigate the allegation against NS within 90 days. Thus, NS has been given a period of 4 months in power.

The story does not end here. The PTI Chairmen has already started a campaign aimed at mobilization of the masses against NS. The first rally started in Peshawar on Sunday. Imran Khan declared that the PTI rallies would be organized throughout Pakistan. He vowed not to end the rallies until the resignation of the prime minister and his accountability.

It is expected that Imran Khan would disclose some serious and sensitive matters against NS, which PTI obtained from Panama Leaks.
Ostensibly, the next 4 months would witness some unprecedented developments. Enjoy the show.
