The failure of politicians

The failure of politicians
Dr. Jassim Taqui

All political parties inside and outside the parliaments were assembled following the massacre of Army Public School in December 2014. For 11 hours they discussed with COAS Gen. Raheel Sharif ways and means to fight terrorism. Ultimately, they agreed on 20-point National Action Plan(NAP) and the 21st Amendment in the Constitution to give a legal cover to the military courts for two years.

The objectives of NAP and military courts were to punish the terrorists. However, the politicians were firstly presentiment and agreed to the demand of COAS fearing that any disagreement might trigger a coup.
Subsequently, however, the politicians in the center and provinces were complaisant as usual. They failed to deliver; preferring  to rely on the army . In the process, they surrendered their domains to the strong military establishment.

Ostensibly, the complaisance of the politicians has directly contributed to the Quetta carnage that has shocked the human conscience inside and outside Pakistan. The carnage was condemned by the  UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon,  United State, European Union and many other Western nations.

Both ISIS and TTP claimed responsibility for the carnage while the Chief Minister of Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri saw RAW’s hand behind this massacre.
This issue prompted the COAS to declare combing operations throughout Pakistan. Resultantly, the army special  service group (SSG), the intelligent agencies are now ready for the kill. For the last two years, they were monitoring the terrorists, their safe-havens, sleeping cells and their domestic and foreign- financers. Now, is time for action.

Thus, the failure of politicians is virtually turning the political dispensation into military democracy or civilian martial law. What a feat?
