Al-Bab Report

Islamabad, August 8, 2016 – American Embassy’s Director of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Katie Stana presented five mini buses valued at $275,000 to Inspector General of Police Shaukat Hayat for the National Highway & Motorway Police (NH&MP).  With this donation, the Pakistan NH&MP will be able to provide transportation for 200 women officers from their homes to their duty stations as well as at the NH&MP Training College in Sheikhupura, Punjab.
At the August 4 handover ceremony at NH&MP headquarters, INL Director Katie Stana said, “the NH&MP stands at the forefront of efforts to integrate women officers into the police service and should be commended for being the sole police agency to have established a Gender Strategy to guide its efforts.”  Inspector General of Police Shaukat Hayat praised INL as being “the leading partner of police agencies in Pakistan.”  He thanked the U.S. Government for its support to the NH&MP, noting that in addition to the mini buses, INL has provided the NH&MP with over 500 sets of body armor, 50-speed check cameras, and 45 motorcycles.
The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs works in more than 90 countries to help countries combat crime and corruption, counter drug-related crime, improve police institutions, and promote laws and court systems that are fair and accountable.
