 A new democracy in Pakistan

The PTI chief Imran Khan submitted references against the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq. Guess what Ayaz Sadiq does? He orders that references should be registered against Imran Khan.

The speaker goes further ahead by attacking the Opposition in the National Assembly. Sadiq does not budge. He gives his ruling that “you guys cannot hold the Prime Minister accountable.” Put differently, the ruling of the Speaker means that the Prime Minister is above the rule of law.

Sadiq doesn’t care. He refused to listen to the genuine demands of the Opposition. He acts as a clerk in Ittefaq mills. He ignores the fact that the Speaker is the leader of the House. The democratic norms require that he should seize to exist as a member of PML(N) and should give equal importance of the ruling party and the Opposition parties.

Ostensibly, the PML-N , read Nawaz Sharif, is discovering a new form of democracy  according to which, the government acts as a judge and an executioner. This discovery should also be registered in the Guinness book of world records. Well done Mr. Prime Minister. You have made Pakistan the champion of the democracy. Never mind if the country changes into a mockery of the world.
