Tahir Al-Qadri VS Nawaz Sharif

Tahir Al-Qadri VS Nawaz Sharif
Dr. Jassim Taqui

An intense battle is emerging between the leader of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Tahir Al-Qadri (TAQ) and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif (NS). This battle is unique by its nature. It is for the first time in the history of Pakistan, a sitting prime minister is accused of being a RAW agent.

TAQ produced a list of 50 RAW agents working for NS. He promised to release another list of 200  RAW agents in due time. Ostensibly, TAQ looks confident. He predicted that the documents of these 250 Indian spies would be burnt to bury the evidence against NS. Within hours, ARY reported a fire erupted in a sugar mill of NS that burnt the documents. However, the mill remains “alive and kicking.”

The Prime Minister NS kept silent for one week. However, he came up with a denial and a threat that he would file a case in the court of law against PAT leader TAQ.

Given the past history of Sharif Brothers (SB), they have always won cases submitted against them either through “private” approach or delaying tactics. Thus, they were not convicted in rigging the 2013 elections despite the fact  that ECP and NADRA conceded of massive irregularities in the elections. Similarly, they were not convicted of any corruption case including the Panama Leaks. They paralyzed the National Assembly, the Senate, and the Auditor General.

The SB raise the slogan of “democracy” to survive in power. However, democracy is not observed even in their ruling party PML-N.  NS has relied on his relatives in running the government and the party especially Mariam Nawaz and Ishaq Dar. Other senior leaders are completely ignored.

Generally speaking, the SB defied and hindered all national institutions in matters pertaining to their interests. Even cricket was not saved from their influence.

On this basis, one tends to believe that TAQ would not succeed in his mission of bringing them to accountability and the rule of law.
Therefore, the political scene would witness a turmoil and instability in the next two months. Anything could happen.
